DHAKA, Oct 15, 2024 (BSS) - Police on Monday night arrested an Awami League (AL) leader from the city's Shah Ali Thana area on the charges of opening fire at an anti-discrimination student agitation, killing Faizul Islam Rajon in Mirpur area.

The arrested was identified as Md Shah Alam, a joint general secretary of Ward No 93 Awami League (AL), said a police press release.

Shah Alam was accused in Faizul Islam Rajon murder case filed with Mirpur Model Police Station on August 16 last.

Police said they arrested the AL leader as his involvement was found in Rajon murder case after scrutinizing the video footages of the incident.

According to the case details, leaders and activists of the Awami League and its front and associate bodies fired indiscriminately at the anti-discrimination student movement in front of Mirpur-10 fire office on July 19.

During the firings, Rajon suffered critical injuries and was rushed to local Azmal Hospital where the on-duty physicians pronounced him dead.
