DHAKA, Oct 17, 2024 (BSS) – Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Vice-Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu today urged the interim government to announce an acceptable roadmap in the earliest time for next general election.
"BNP does not want power from you (the interim government). We just want to ensure the people's rights to vote. In the last 16 years, we wanted to ensure that people can cast their votes properly," he said.
Dudu was addressing a discussion titled ' Agami Nirbachan, Nagorik Prottasha' at Jatiya Press Club (JPC) as the chief guest.
Central Committee of Zia Projonmo Dal organized the discussion with its Chairman Advocate Parveen Kausar Munni in the chair.
Adviser to BNP Chairperson Bir Muktijoddha Abdus Salam was present as the main discussant.
People of this country know how to hold a free, fair and acceptable election, Dulu said, adding that reforms into police, administration and other organs of the state are not indispensible for holding the election.
People of the country would not accept 'dilly-dally' over elections in the name of reforms, he added.
Noting that election roadmap is the only demand of the people, Dudu said, as soon as the interim government would declare the election roadmap, as soon as the expectation of the people would be fulfilled.
Dulu hoped that Tarique Rahman would become the next Prime Minister of the country through people's votes in the next election.
Though the 1/11 plot in 2007 was called for ‘minus-two’ formula, but it was in fact designed to keep away Khaleda Zia from politics as Sheikh Hasina found that government as the result of her movement, said Dulu.
Later, Moeen-Fakhruddin left the country after handing over the power to Sheikh Hasina, he observed.
In continuation of that plan, a vested quarter is now thinking to keep Tarique Zia and BNP away from power, Dulu warned urging all to remain alert about the plot.
Later, a reception was accorded to Member Secretary of Portugal unit of BNP Saif Ahmed Sweet on his coming back to home after long stay abroad due to the oppression of tyranny Awami League government of Sheikh Hasina.
