DHAKA, Oct 17, 2024 (BSS) – Police on Wednesday arrested a Jubo League leader from the city’s Rupnagar Thana area on charges of, open firing indiscriminately on people participating in the student-people movement at Mirpur on July 20, killing Shamim.

The arrested was identified as Rubel alias Chashma Rubel, general secretary of 9 No. ward of Rupnagar Thana Jubo League.

Police arrested Rubel from Rupnagar Thana area at 9.15pm on Wednesday as his involvement was found in Shamim murder, following scrutinisation of the video footages of the incident.

Rubel was accused in a case filed with Rupnagar Police Station over killing Shamim on September 15 last.

The case details said that a group of Awami League leaders and activists fired indiscriminate gunshots at the protesters during the anti-discrimination student movement in front of Proshika More on July 20 last. Shamim suffered critical bullet wounds in the firing.

He was rushed to the Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College and Hospital, where the on-duty doctors pronounced him dead.
