DHAKA, Oct 17, 2024 (BSS) – A five-member delegation led by Dr. Fujiang Yu, Director General of National Marine Environmental Forecasting Centre (NMEFC) of China today called on Dhaka University (DU) Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) Prof. Dr. Mamun Ahmed at the VC’s meeting room of the university.
 
Dr. Fujiang Yu was accompanied by Dr. Jianxi Dong, Dr. Dakui Wang, Dr. Yuanyong Gao and Dr. Zongchen Wang, said a DU press release.  
 
Dean of DU Earth and Environmental Sciences faculty Prof Dr Kazi Matin Uddin Ahmed, DU Oceanography Department chairman Dr KM Azam Chowdhury,  Prof. Dr Md Jobaer Alam, visiting Professor Dr Tonia Astrid Capuano and some other faculty members were present on the occasion.
 
During the meeting they discussed matters of mutual interests specially the possibilities of strengthening ongoing joint collaborative academic and research programs on ocean science, marine forecasting and disaster management between DU and NMEFC, China.  
 
The possibilities of establishing a joint forecasting centre at Dhaka University was also discussed in the meeting.
 
They stressed the need for enhancing ongoing joint Masters and PhD programs between the two institutions to promote education and research on oceanography, climate change, meteorology, disaster science and management.
 
A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between DU and NMEFC was signed in 2021 to foster international cooperation in scientific research.
 
DU Pro-VC Dr. Mamun Ahmed thanked the guests for their visit to the university and keen interest in its academic and research activities.
