DHAKA, Oct 18, 2024 (BSS) - BNP Chairperson’s Adviser Zainul Abdin Farroque today said that prices of the essentials won’t be increased if the “thieves” of Awami League (AL) were punished after bringing them to book.

“The prices of essentials including eggs and onions won’t be increased if the members of the syndicates and thieves and frauds of the Awami League government could have been brought to justice,” he said.

He made the remarks at the symbolic sit-in demonstration demanding withdrawal of all “false” cases against BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman and his wife Dr. Zubaida Rahman. ‘Protibad’, a social organization, organized the programe in front of Jatiya Press Club here.

Referring to Sheikh Hasina’s remarks that she would never flee, Farroque said, “Sheikh Hasina with pride said that BNP won’t get time to flee. But, ironically, she had to flee the country after resigning (from the post of Prime Minister).”

In this connection, he alleged that the “superhero of the Liberation War Sheikh Mujibur Rahman” went to Rawalpindi (in Pakistan) with suitcase in the name of arrest after bowing down head to Pakistan.
Pointing finger to India, he said, “It is the high time to see what you (India) want to do. If you want to bring Sheikh Hasina to power again after pushing her back to the country, then we will think that you (India) want to make Bangladesh as your provincial state.”

Farroque said Bangladesh had become independent through a long struggle and it fought for its language. “So, please don’t try to belittle Bangladesh. Hand Sheikh Hasina over to the government immediately. The people of Bangladesh don’t want Awami League (in power) anymore.”
