DHAKA, Oct 19, 2024 (BSS) – Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain is set to depart Dhaka for Samoa tonight to attend the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) there.

He will leave Dhaka by a Singapore Airlines flight at around midnight, making a stopover in New Zealand before arriving in Samoa, a foreign ministry official confirmed BSS this evening.

The 2024 CHOGM, scheduled from October 21 to 26 in Apia, Samoa, marks the first time the summit will be hosted by a Pacific Small Island Developing State.

On the sidelines of the summit, the foreign adviser is expected to hold several bilateral meetings with his counterparts from other Commonwealth nations.

However, no meetings with Indian or Pakistani officials are planned, as he has recently met with them, Hossain told the media on Thursday.

The foreign adviser will represent Bangladesh at the summit on behalf of Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus.

CHOGM brings together leaders and delegates from 56 member states across Africa, the Caribbean and Americas, Europe, Asia, and the Pacific.

The summit's primary focus is to enhance multilateral cooperation, explore new opportunities, and address common challenges to build a better future for the next generation.
