Home adviser warns against filing of harassment cases

DHAKA, Oct 19, 2024 (BSS) – Home Adviser Lt. Gen. Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.) today sounded a note of warning against filing of harassment cases against innocent people to extort money.

“We are going to take action against those who will file cases to harass people. The home ministry has recently given an instruction to the people concerned in this regard,” he said while briefing newsmen at the Rajshahi Sector BGB Headquarters.

Replying to a question about bringing normalcy to the police activities, he said the situation in the police administration has improved compared to what was immediately after August 5 last.

“There was trauma in the police administration. But, the situation is improving gradually. We have to give them some more time to overcome the situation,” he said.
Asked about major corruption in agriculture mechanization, Jahangir, also agriculture adviser, said corruption had taken place in agriculture mechanization and fertilizer management.

“We are investigating the matter. Those who are responsible for it will be brought to justice. One or two persons have already been brought to book,” he added.

In responding to a question about Obaidul Quader and Hasan Mahmud, the adviser said he has no specific information about them right now.

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Director General Major General Mohammad Ashrafuzzaman Siddiqui, Rangpur Region Commander Brig General SM Zahidur Rahman and Rajshahi Sector Commander Col Imran Ibne Yusuf, among others, were present.

The home adviser earlier spoke at a Darbar of Rajshahi Sector Headquarters and Rajshahi Battalion (1 BGB).

He inspected the house guard and signed the book kept there.

Additionally, the home adviser also visited 14 BGB Patnitala battalion under Patnitala Upzila in Naogaon district. He also visited agriculture museum and agriculture firm operated by the BGB there.

Public administration ministry senior secretary Dr. Md Mokhles ur Rahman and Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Mainul Islam were present, among others.
