DHAKA, Oct 21, 2024 (BSS) - Religious Affairs Adviser AFM Khalid Hossain has clarifies his recent statement on election delivered at a recent meeting with local journalist in Cox's Bazar.

In a clarification issued last night, the adviser said he would like to clarify some misunderstandings regarding his discussion with local journalists at Cox’s Bazar Circuit House on October 18 last.

"My statement in response to questions about the upcoming parliamentary elections, have unfortunately been misrepresented by some newspapers, online news portals, and other media outlets," he said.

"It was reported that I stated the Honourable Adviser, Dr. Asif Nazrul, and the Chief of Army Staff's comments were not aligned with the government’s position on the elections. This assertion is both incorrect and misleading," he said.

Khalid Hossain said, "he did not mention the Chief of Army Staff or the Honourable Adviser to the Ministry of Law, Justice, and Parliamentary Affairs in any of his remarks".

"Additionally, my comment regarding the interim period — where I explained that 'Interim means one government has stepped down, and until the next government assumes office, we are fulfilling this interim role' — has also been distorted," he added.

Noting that such misreporting is deeply regrettable, the religious affairs adviser said his office has already issued a rejoinder to the concerned media, respectfully requesting that future reporting should be based on accurate and objective information.

For reference, he said, a video recording of the briefing held at Cox’s Bazar Circuit House is available online and archived in his office.
