DHAKA, Oct 22, 2024 (BSS) – Labour and Employment Adviser Asif Mahmud Sajib Bhuiyan today said the Ministry of Youth and Sports has taken training programmes to increase the skills of youth at grassroots level through the Department of Youth Development.
The adviser said this when Swedish Ambassador to Bangladesh Nicolas Weeks paid a courtesy call on him at his office here, said a press release.
“Under the leadership of Chief Adviser of the interim government Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus, we are working to create a pro-youth environment. This trend will continue,” said the adviser.
During the meeting, various activities of the Ministry of Labour and Employment and the Ministry of Youth and Sports including child labor, labor laws, elimination of violence against women, empowerment of women, creating a worker-friendly environment in the garment sector and ensuring the safety of workers were discussed.
The Swedish Ambassador wanted to know about the activities of the ministry regarding the labor dissatisfaction in the garment sector and other issues like child labor and the safety of workers.
In response, Secretary of the Ministry of Labour and Employment A H M Shafiquzzaman said that the ministry is committed to fulfilling all the fair demands of the workers.
The government, employers and workers are working together for the development of the labor sector, he said, adding, "We are going to take a new project to create a database to address discrimination among workers."
