Four including ex-Feni MP Rahim Ullah remanded over murder case

FENI, Oct 23, 2024 (BSS) – A Feni court today placed former member of Parliament (MP) from Feni-3 Haji Rahim Ullah and three others on five-day remand in a case filed over killing of a Tomtom driver in the town during the anti-discrimination students’ movement on August 4.

Sub-Inspector (SI) Nazmul Hassan of Feni Model Thana, also the Investigation Officer (IO) of the case, today produced the five accused -- including former MP Rahim Ullah before the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate (Adi-CJM) Shamsad Begum and prayed for 10 days remand. The Adi-CJM after hearing the arguments granted five-day remand for Rahim Ullah, private secretary to former MP, Nizam Hajari Farid Manik, Osman Gani Liton and Saidul Haque.
 
The court also deferred the remand hearing of another accused Samrat.

All the accused are leaders and workers of Feni Awami League and its front organizations.

According to FIR of the case, police said Tomtom driver Zafar Ahmed joined the anti-discrimination students’ movement at Tank Road in the town on August 3. Later, Chairman of Sharsodi union Jane Alam Bhuiyan along with his 10 to 11 accomplices went to the house of Zafar in the afternoon and threatened to kill him. The accused persons on August 4 mercilessly beat up Zafar in front of Feni District Jail. Local people rescued him from the spot and sent him to Feni General Hospital, where the attending doctor declared him dead.

Asia Begum, wife of Zafar, filed a case with Feni Sadar Thana accusing 205 and some 100 to 150 unnamed persons for killing Zafar.

The main accused in the case are-Jatiya Party presidium member and former MP from Feni-3 Lieutenant General (Rtd) Masud Uddin Chowdhury and former MP Feni-2 and general secretary of Feni District Awami League Nizam Uddin Hajari.
