RANGPUR, Oct 26, 2024 (BSS) – Md Sarjis Alam, one of the coordinators of the anti-discrimination student movement, has said the President had lost his right to hold the post earlier and recently proved it again.
 
“Hearing the President’s words, our hearts bled. Those who have caused the student-people mass upsurge don't want to hear his statement on the resignation of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,” he said.
 
Sarjis said this while responding to a question from journalists after he came out from the sixth foundation anniversary celebration function of Rangpur Metropolitan Police held in the city this afternoon.
 
He said dialogues are on with the leaders of all political parties about the President’s resignation for the last two days.
 
“If all political parties of the country want to remove him, then no evil power can keep him in this position. We think that no friend of fascist regime has the right to hold office in any particular place in Bangladesh,” he said.
 
He said, “With the consent of political parties, we will appoint very soon a person who will hold the spirit of 2024 in the future as well.”
 
While addressing the foundation anniversary ceremony of Rangpur Metropolitan Police, Sarjis Alam earlier said, "Those policemen who killed my brothers unjustly during the student movement should be punished according to the law of Bangladesh."
 
“Police can't be punished by transfer only for crime. Police are no longer punished for murder without transfer. Transfer is not the only punishment for the crime,” he added.  
 
He said, “Strict punishment should be ensured to the criminals. If not, the Bangladesh we dream of, there will be bigger coups and more bloodshed in the coming days.”
 
Sarjis Alam said, without keeping in mind the image crisis of the police in the July revolution, some police are still working for some parties or groups at different angles.
 
“Business is being done through false cases in the country. Some police are silent spectators. Someone is trying to take advantage again,” he said.
 
Sarjis said those who participated in the elections and took the privilege of sitting in the chair of the parliament to legitimize Awami League in the last three elections, regardless of the party they belong to, are friends of fascism.
 
Bangladesh does not want a party that comes to power and exploits others, he said, adding that no one can stand in the way of creating the Bangladesh that Shaheed Abu Sayeed dreamed of and the freedom that has been gained in the blood of the students.
 
“If someone stands in the way, we will meet again on the streets. We are still ready to give life. In this struggle, the fight will be on the streets, or it will be seen in victory,” he said.
 
Earlier in the morning, Sarjis with the Inspector General of Police Md Moynul Islam visited the grave of Shaheed Abu Sayeed and met his family in Babanpur village of Pirganj upazila in the district.
 
In the afternoon, Sarjis Alam exchanged views with the students on the Independence Memorial Square of Begum Rokeya University.
