BR encouraging traders, farmers to transport agri products by special trains

DHAKA, Oct 27, 2024 (BSS) – Bangladesh Railway (BR) has taken steps to encourage farmers and businessmen to transport agricultural and other goods by its special trains to different parts of the country at low costs.

BR launched first special from Jashore on October 22, second one from Panchagarh on October 24 and the third train was inaugurated on Saturday from Rajshahi.  

“We’ve already launched three special trains to offer farmers and businessmen to transport agricultural and other goods to different parts of the country at low costs as part of the government’s move to bring down commodity prices to a tolerable level,” BR Director General Md. Sardar Shahadat Ali told BSS.

Already, leaders and activists of Anti-discrimination student movement are selling essential goods at reasonable prices at different districts in the country.  

BR sources said each special train is able to carry 120 tons of goods every day. Fruits and vegetables can be transported by the train’s state-of-the-art luggage vans, they added.   

Besides, frozen products such as fish, meat and milk can also be transported in refrigerated luggage vans.

The train carrying charge for goods from Khulna to Dhaka has been fixed at Tk 1.47 per kg, Jashore-Dhaka at Tk 1.35 per kg, Chuadanga-Dhaka at Tk 1.30 per kg, Ishwardi-Dhaka at 1.08 per kg, Parbotipur-Dhaka at Tk 1.34 per kg, Joypurhat-Dhaka at Tk 1.30 per Kg, Santahar-Dhaka at Tk 1.19 per kg, Rajshahi-Dhaka at Tk 1.18 per kg and Rohanpur-Dhaka at Tk 1.30 per kg.
