CHATTOGRAM, Oct 27, 2024 (BSS)- Kalurghat Bridge over the Karnaphuli River reopened for traffic today after renovation.
All types of vehicles with a maximum height of eight feet can ply on the toll free bridge, railway sources said.
However, heavy vehicles like trucks and buses will not be allowed to run on the bridge, it said.
The rail cum road-bridge now can also be crossed on foot as walkways were constructed on the bridge, he said.
Railway Eastern General Manager (GM) Mohammad Nazmul Islam said the renovation work has been done at the cost of Taka 55 crore in 14 months.
The 239-metre Kalurghat bridge, built in 1930, became unfit for both train and road traffic, forcing the authorities to take the renovation project.
BUET expert team recently recommended resuming traffic on the bridge which was closed on August 1 in 2023 for renovation.
