Commission to discuss with more stakeholders on SC judge appointment policy

DHAKA, Oct 27, 2024 (BSS) - The Judiciary Reforms Commission will take opinions from more stakeholders before formulating policies regarding the appointment of judges to the Supreme Court.

"We are working on formulating policies on appointing judges to the Supreme Court. However, no final decision has been made yet. We will sit with more stakeholders to get their opinion in this regard," said Chief of Judiciary Reform Commission retired Justice Shah Abu Naeem Mominur Rahman.

The commission's chief was briefing journalists after holding a meeting of the commission at the Judicial Administration Training Institute here today.

Shah Abu Naeem also urged the media outlets to refrain from publishing wrong news about the commission, saying, "We noticed one or two media outlets are publishing wrong news about us, which creates confusion. We hope that the media will refrain from publishing wrong news."

In the meeting, commission members- retired judge of the High Court Division Emdadul Haque, Justice Farid Ahmed Shibli, former district and sessions judge Syed Aminul Islam, former district and sessions judge Masdar Hossain, senior Supreme Court lawyer Tanim Hussain Shawon and Dhaka University law department's associate professor Kazi Mahfuzaul Haque Supan were present in the meeting.  
 
Chief of the judiciary reform commission said they will discuss with the representatives of various professions. As a part of this, the commission has already discussed with the lawyer leaders.

On Thursday, the Reform Commission held a view-exchange meeting with the Supreme Court lawyer leaders where the lawyers emphasized on the policy of appointment of judges in the high court.

 On October 03, the government constituted the eight-member commission with a view to proposing necessary reforms to make the judiciary independent, impartial and effective.
