DHAKA, Oct 28, 2024 (BSS) – Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Sunday arrested a private university student from city’s Uttara area on charges of hacking facebook IDs of various individuals.
The arrested was identified as Md Fazle Hasan Anik, 24, son of Aynul Haque, of Nengtadah, Majhgaon under Baraigram Upazila in Natore district.
A team of Cyber Police Centre (CPC) unit of the CID arrested Anik from Sector-10 of Uttara under Uttara West Police Station on Sunday and seized one mobile phone set and a portable hard disk from him, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of the unit Md Nazrul Islam.
He also said the arrestee has been involved in blackmailing of 15 individuals by using their sensitive pictures after hacking their facebook IDs for the last two years.
Earlier on October 18, the CPC of the CID arrested one person from Babuganj Upazila of Barishal district for his alleged involvement in blackmailing people to make their personal pictures and videos viral on social networking sites after collecting those by hacking their facebook IDs. The news of his arrest was widely covered by newspapers.
Being informed about the CPC of the CID which has been working sincerely since its inception against cyber crimes, one of the victims informed the unit about Anik of Natore, who has been blackmailing her, Nazrul said.
The police officer said they also received multiple such allegations from police Cyber Support for Women, Police Headquarters.
After getting the allegation, the CPC of CID conducted a shadow investigation into the allegations and identified the hacker, he said.
Nazrul called upon all not to open their facebook accounts by giving the password after clicking any messenger links, as the earlier victims fell into trouble by doing so.
The CID officer asked all concerned to inform them immediately as soon as they fall prey to online hackers.
