DHAKA, Oct 28, 2024 (BSS) - University Grants Commission of Bangladesh (UGC) Chairman Professor Dr. SMA Faiz today laid emphasis on reducing distance between student-teacher relationships to ensure an effective academic environment, saying teachers should understand students’ expectation and meet it accordingly.
“Student-teacher relationships gap should be reduced to ensure an effective academic atmosphere. In addition, teachers have to meet the expectation of students,” he said.
The chairman made the call while speaking as the chief guest at a workshop on a teacher training module under “Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT)” project at UGC, funded by the government and the World Bank, said a press release.
Mentioning that the student-teacher relationships are the aspect of respect, Professor Faiz said distance that is being existed in the student-teacher relationships in classroom should be minimized.
“Teachers should pay more attention to what the students want in classroom,” he said, adding, “Today's students are very talented.”
He advised teachers to understand their students properly, and give due respect to their emotions.
UGC member Professor Mohammad Tanzimuddin Khan, Professor Dr. Mohammad Anwar Hossen and Additional Secretary (Development) of Secondary and Higher Education Department of the Ministry of Education Md Hasan Maruf also spoke.
Professor Tanjimuddin Khan emphasized on increasing investment in education to make development sustainable, saying education should be kept at the center to get a good position in human development index.
He called upon the teachers to work with dedication to turn the students into human resources.
Professor Anwar said that the country's higher education will be transformed through HEAT project, as it is expected to meet up the needs of society eliminating the limitation.
He urged teachers to play an exemplary role in nation building and ensuring social justice.
Hasan Maruf said that HEAT project has been taken to improve the quality of higher education. He urged all concerned to comply with the government's rules and regulations in implementation of the project to ensure the efficient use of the project funds.
Commission secretary Dr Md Fakhrul Islam, Director of Planning and Development Mohammad Maksudur Rahman Bhuiyan and Project Director of HEAT Project Professor Dr. Asaduzzaman also spoke with UGC Director of SPQA Dr. Durga Rani Sarkar in the chair.
Institutional Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC) of 106 private universities of the country participated in the workshop.
