DHAKA, Oct 29, 2024 (BSS) - The Bangladesh Army today detained seven more individuals for their alleged involvement in different criminal activities and seized 2 firearms along with local weapons during a raid at the Geneva Camp in the capital's Mohammadpur today.
Earlier, on Monday a team of joint forces detained 22 people while another joint forces team on Saturday also detained 45 individuals in connection with a series of factional clashes, extortions and robberies in Mohammadpur area.
"A total of seven people were arrested today for their alleged involvement in different criminal activities, snatching and extortionists and juvenile crimes from Geneva Camp today," said a release of Inter-Service of Public Relations (ISPR) this evening.
Two pistols, 20 bullets and local sharp weapons were recovered from their possessions, the release added.
After the fall of the Awami League government, Mohammadpur area has become one of the most crime-prone areas in the capital, with incidents of gunfire, robbery, theft and armed assaults becoming a daily occurrence.
In the last month alone, at least three individuals have been killed in shootouts while several others have sustained bullet injuries due to clashes over drug peddling.
Meanwhile, video footage of armed individuals robbing a mini supermarket in Basila circulated on social media on Friday night frustrating the city dwellers as well.
This operation is being conducted as a part of regular patrolling and operations by the joint forces in assigned areas under 'In Aid to Civil Power' to implement the directives of the current interim government, the release added.
