DHAKA, Oct 30, 2024 (BSS) - Police today arrested Awami League leader Montu Miah from Bangshal area on charge of killing Yasin Ahmed Raj during the Anti-Discrimination Student Movement on August 5 last.

Montu Miah is the treasurer of AL ward no-32 and joint secretary of Bangladesh Chhinnomul Hawkers League.

Yasin Ahmed Raj joined the anti-discrimination student movement at Naya Bazar Nawab Yusuf Market along with others on August 5. AL activists including Montu Miah attacked the students and general people and fired at them indiscriminately.

Raj and many others received bullet injuries at that time.

Raj was immediately taken to Sir Salimullah Medical College and Mitford Hospital where the attending doctors declared him dead.
 
Police confirmed the involvement of Montu in killing Raj after scrutinizing video footage.

Shahida Begum, mother of Raj, filed a murder case in this connection with Bangshal Police Station on September 25 last.
