Dhaka, Oct 31, 2024 (BSS) – A workshop titled ‘Empowering the Next Generation for a Resilient Future’ was held today at Dhaka University campus commemorating the International Day for Disaster Risk Reduction (IDDRR).
The program, held at the university’s Nabab NawabAli Chowdhury Senate Bhaban conference, featured a series of presentations from key sectors—government, private, NGOs, and academia—discussing the roles of diverse stakeholders in enhancing disaster preparedness.
Disaster Management and Relief secretary Kamrul Hasan addressed it as chief guest while joint secretary Lutfun Nahar attended as special guest on the occasion, Chaired by Dr. Mohammad Moniruzzaman Khan, Director of the Institute of Disaster Management and Vulnerability Studies, Dhaka University.
A total of 80 faculty members and students from different universities including Dhaka University, BRAC University, Khulna University, Begum Rokeya University, and CUET, as well as delegates from the MoDMR, representatives from FBCCI and various local NGOs took part in the workshop.
The discussions highlighted the essential theme of education in equipping the next generation to face disaster challenges, emphasizing the importance of academic involvement in disaster risk reduction.
