CWASA MD Fazlullah removed after 15 years

CHATTOGRAM, Oct 31, 2024 (BSS)-The Local Government Division has removed Chattogram Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (CWASA) Managing Director (MD) AKM Fazlullah from his post after 15 years despite many allegations of irregularities and corruption against him.

 Deputy Secretary Abdur Rahman of Local Government Division issued a notification on Wednesday, regarding his removal and cancellation of his contractual appointment.

The ministry in the same notification also announced that Mohammad Anwar Pasha, director of Local Government at the Chattogram Divisional Commissioner's Office, has been appointed temporarily as Chattogram Wasa MD in addition to his own duties.

AKM Fazlullah retired in 2000 as an executive engineer was appointed on July 6, 2009, as the chairman of the Chattogram Wasa Board for one year, but he served in two positions for the past 15 years in six terms.  

Locals alleged that he was involved in various crimes including irregularities in the project, nepotism in recruitment due to his position as MD.

Meanwhile, leaders of the Chattogram division and city committees of the Consumers Association of Bangladesh (CAB) have demanded an immediate investigation into all the corruption and irregularities committed during Fazlullah's controversial tenures, bringing him to book and imposing a travel ban on him.
