RANGPUR, Nov 1, 2024 (BSS) - The victory of new Bangladesh must
not be missed and its benefits should reach the doorsteps of the vast marginalized population.
"That is why leaders and workers of the movement should be more vocal and organized," said Principal coordinator of the State Reform Movement Hasnat Qayum.
He said this while addressing the organization's Rangpur divisional rally organised by its Rangpur district unit on the Press Club premises here tonight as the chief guest.
Presided over by coordinator of the organization's Rangpur district unit Professor Chinu Kabir, Faridul Islam moderated the rally.
Organizational coordinator of the State Reform Movement Imran Emon, its National Executive Committee Ombudsman Advocate Raihan Kabir, National Coordination Committee Members Samiul Alam Rasu and Kanak Rahman, Dhaka Metropolitan North Coordinator Sadhana Mahal, State Reform Youth Movement Coordinator Mashkur Ratul, State Reform Student Movement President Ahmed Ishaq, Bangladesh Landless Movement General Secretary Sheikh Nasir Uddin and Organiser of the Sahebganj Bagda Farmland Rescue Struggle Committee Mr. Barnabas Tudu addressed the rally.
Writer-columnist and organizer Nahid Hasan spoke it as the special guest in the gathering.
Hasnat Qayum said, "We proposed seven points of state reform in 2018. After six years today, everyone is saying that state reform is needed. We are now taking a step forward about the minimum reforms needed and how they can be made sustainable."
"Today we say that electing a constitutional reform assembly like in 1946 and 1970 is the proven path of least risk and most stability. We must pay for the blood of hundreds of martyrs," he said.
Raihan Kabir said, Shaheed Abu Sayeed's land of Rangpur is the birthplace of revolutionary rebellion and popular uprising.
"Rangpur division is the victim of discrimination and we don't accept any discrimination further. Discrimination should be eliminated immediately by implementing the seven points of state reform," he said.
Imran Emon said, looting and dictatorship continued in Bangladesh during the previous fascist regime.
"If someone wants to play this game again, we will not allow it. The democratic transformation of the country should be done by reforming the state in such a way that no one can become a dictatorship in the future," he said.
Referring to various undemocratic clauses of the constitution, Nahid Hasan said democratic transformation of the state is impossible without constitutional reform.
Till date no government in Bangladesh has held power accountable to the people or the people's representatives. Almost all our problems are rooted in unaccountable government.
"Not so many people gave their lives just to remove the fascist mafia rulers. They have sacrificed lives for establishing such a system so that no other rulers can become a fascist, mafia and tyrant like the Awami rulers using the state power," he said.
He said, "We need an accountable, humanitarian and democratic state today to repay the blood debt of Shaheed Abu Sayeed. These seven areas need to be reformed to establish this Bangladesh of mass aspiration."
The seven areas that need reform are: electoral system, legal department, administration, judiciary, local government, economic system and constitutional power structure.
