DHAKA, Nov 6, 2024 (BSS) - Acting Australian High Commissioner to Bangladesh Nardia Simpson today called on Religious Affairs Adviser AFM Khalid Hossain at the latter's office here.
During the meeting, they discussed various matters on bilateral issues and interest, said a press release.
The religious adviser said that Australia is one of the development partners of Bangladesh and Australia has been supporting Bangladesh in infrastructure and socio-economic development.
Terming Australia's relationship with Bangladesh as very close and friendly, the adviser expressed optimism that the ties between the two countries will be stronger in the days to come.
Besides, he requested Australia to continue the assistance for the development of Bangladesh.
The Religious Adviser appraised the Australian envoy of the activities of the Religious Affairs Ministry.
He highlighted the activities undertaken by the Ministry of Religious Affairs to protect communal harmony in the country. Besides, the High Commissioner was also informed about the various steps taken by the government for the smooth celebration of the recently held Durga Puja.
The Australian envoy urged imams to play a positive role in preventing child marriage and stopping violence against women.
Additional Secretaries of the ministry Md Naib Ali Mandal and Md. Abdul Awal Howlader, First Secretary (development) of the Australian High Commission Syed Sajjad Haider and First Secretary (Political) Lara Adams, and Personal Secretary of the adviser Sadek Ahmed, among others, were present.
