Speakers for collective efforts to end child marriage 

   DHAKA, Oct 11, 2021 (BSS) - Speakers at a roundtable here today stressed taking collective efforts to prevent child marriage in the country. 

  They discussed the role of government, civil society and journalists in this regard.

  On the occasion of 'International Day of the Girl Child 2021', the roundtable titled "Role of Positive Environment in Adolescent Self-Development" was held at a hotel here. 

  The event was jointly organized by Unilever Bangladesh, Plan International Bangladesh and Children's Affairs Journalists Network (CAJN).

   Chairman of the parliamentary standing committee on women and children affairs ministry Meher Afroz Chumki attended it as the chief guest with CAJN President Mahfuza Jasmine in the chair. 

  Meher Afroze said the media can play an important role in bringing those involved in child marriage under the law and order.

  Women's Affairs Department Director General Ram Chandra Das, Daily Jugantar Editor Saiful Alam, Unilever Bangladesh CEO and MD Javed Akhtar, Plan International Bangladesh Country Director Orla Murphy and three teenagers also took part in the discussion. 

  Later, Meher Afroz Chumki inaugurated the 'Dove Self-Esteem Project', a Unilever Bangladesh initiative for youths.
