DHAKA, Nov 07, 2024 (BSS) - University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof. Dr. SMA Faiz today urged the authorities concerned to revise the Higher Education Acceleration and Transformation (HEAT) Project to ensure smooth funding for uninterrupted broadband internet service at residential halls of universities.
The UGC Chairman said the project also should be revised so that poor meritorious students can get financial assistance and scholarship.
He said the poor meritorious students, who are staying outside the campuses, should be included in the project so that they can get financial grants.
He came up with the recommendation as a six-member delegation of the World Bank met him at his office here.
Dhaka University has been considered as pilot project, he told the delegation.
He also assured the delegation of providing all-out support to implement the project and resolve the problems related to the scheme.
UGC members Prof Dr. Mohammad Tanzimuddin Khan and Prof Dr. M Anwar Hossen, UGC Secretary Dr. Mohammad Fakhrul Islam, Directors Mohammad Maksudur Rahman Bhuiyan and Prof Dr Asaduzzaman, among others, were present.
The UGC is implanting the project with a view to carrying out essential reform agendas in higher education, including digital networks and resources, innovation and patenting, quality assurance and accreditation, competitive research grants for boosting advanced research focusing on competence building in graduates and improvement of teaching and learning environment and practices.
