DHAKA, Nov 7, 2024 (BSS) - Dhaka and Jakarta have stressed the need to resume
the 5th round of Bangladesh-Indonesia Preferential Trade Agreement (BI-PTA)
talks, aiming to boost trade and investment opportunities between the two
countries.
This was observed today while Indonesian Ambassador Heru Hartanto Subolo paid
farewell call on the Foreign Secretary Md Jashim Uddin at the State Guest
House Padma today.
During the meeting, the Foreign Secretary stressed on air connectivity and
resuming "Visa on Arrival" facility for the Bangladeshi nationals to further
strengthen the people-to-people contacts.
The Foreign Secretary and Ambassador discussed the issues of mutual interest
concerning trade and investment, energy, agriculture, tourism and
connectivity.
Both underscored the necessity of holding the 2nd Foreign Office Consultation
in early 2025 in order to review the whole gamut of bilateral relations
between the two countries.
They discussed on the potential of Bangladeshi pharmaceutical products in
Indonesian market and importance of diversifying exports from Bangladesh to
Indonesian market.
The Indonesian envoy assured to work on the matter after his return to
Jakarta.
Following the call on, the Foreign Secretary hosted a farewell luncheon in
honor of the departing Ambassador Subolo.
