DHAKA, Nov 10, 2024 (BSS) - Bangladesh Shishu Hospital and Institute is providing best medical services in spite of bed crises sometimes to be caused by rush of child patients, an official said.
A huge number of child patients get proper treatment from the hospital's outdoor and staying on its floor everyday as the leading child medicare provider very often can't offer beds to the patients because it lacks beds for demands.
Many non-serious patients leave the hospital after taking primary treatment from outdoor as doctors tell them no need to be admitted.
But, there are really some patients needing to be admitted who were seen waiting on the hospital’s balcony and floor.
Hospital's resident doctor Mahmudul Haque Chowdhury said patients from different parts of the country came here for treatment but it has not enough beds against demands.
So, sometimes it is not possible to admit patients if the beds are not empty, he said, adding: "It is true that sometimes patients do not get beds as it lacks, but the patients get proper treatment. No doubt about it."
Sources said the hospital currently has a total of 680 beds with 180 free beds designated for poor patients as 50 more beds will be prepared this month due to increasing demand.
They said a multi-storied building is under construction at the hospital rising to 1,500 beds next year.
Three types of ticket are sold for outdoor treatment with Tk 60, 120 and 200, they added.
Md. Ferdous from Sonargaon area came to the hospital for his son's treatment as he has kidney disease. He got a bed in the hospital a week later.
He said the treatment is good here and his child is better now than before.
Abdul Alim came to the hospital from Jamalpur for his daughter Aksa's treatment as she has been suffering from pneumonia.
He said his daughter was admitted to the hospital a week ago and she is now recovering slowly.
Sources said the hospital beds is on rental system and the patients have to pay money Tk 1,200-3,500 per day for each cabin room and Tk 700 per day for each bed.
Medicines and food have to be bought with the patient’s own money and hospital provides only medical services, they added.
