DHAKA, Nov 10, 2024 (BSS)- Senior Secretary of the land ministry ASM Saleh Ahmed has said country’s economy would be flourished if land development taxes can be collected rightly from the organizations under different ministries.
So, online system and necessary manpower having IT knowledge should be employed for accurate collection of the land taxes, he said at a workshop here today.
Land Reforms Board organized the workshop on ‘Possible Measures of Organisational Land Development Tax Collection’ at Bhumi Bhaban in the city.
Chairman of the board Abdus Sabur Mandol presided over the workshop while chairman of Land Appeal Board Muhammad Ibrahim, Director General of Department of Land Records and Survey Maha. Moniruzzaman and officials from different ministries, divisions and organizations were present.
Land secretary said, in the new law the collection period of land development taxes has been fixed from July 1 to June 30.
The time frame will synchronize the land tax collection time with the national fiscal year, making the accounting management of land tax collection of individuals and organizations easier and faster, he said.
Pointing out the challenges of land tax collection he said the main reason of the challenge was due to lack of updated land record and mutation.
There is also lack of coordination between the land office and government organizations in the areas of fixing holding number, calculating taxes and its collection. Shortage of manpower is also a reason, he said.
Land tax collection might be successful through joint initiative of land office and government organization, he added.
