Japan University keen to work with KU to enhance fish production

KHULNA, Nov 13, 2024 (BSS) - The University of the Ryukyus at Okinawa, Japan, is keen to work with Khulna University (KU) to enhance fish farming in Bangladesh.
 
Hiratsuka Yuji, a specially appointed associate professor in the co-creation management department of Ryukus University, showed the interest today during a courtesy visit with KU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Rezaul Karim at the latter's office.
 
Yuji, who also represented the centre of excellence for the sustainable integration of land-based aquaculture with agriculture to build the resource circular symbiotic society of Ryukyus University, said their university is keen to work together with South Asian Universities, including Bangladesh, to develop the fisheries sector through the use of ultra-modern technologies.
 
He also pointed out a collaboration proposal to increase fish production through combined efforts with aquaculture and agriculture between KU and Ryukyus University.
 
Welcoming Prof Hiratsuka Yuji to KU, the VC Dr Karim informed that the Discipline of Fisheries and Marine Resource Technology (FMRT) is conducting education and research activities, while the Discipline of Agro Technology is working with agriculture here.
 
There are a lot of opportunities with aquaculture and agriculture sectors in Bangladesh, he said, adding, fish production can be enhanced with joint cooperation.
 
The VC, later, handed over a crest inscribed with KU monogram to Hiratsuka Yuji.
 
KU-Pro-VC Prof Dr Harunur Rashid Khan, Head of FMRT Discipline Prof Dr Md Golam Sarwar, Associate Professor Prof Md Shaheen Parvez and Prof of Forestry and Wood Technology Discipline Dr Md Enamul Kabir, among others, were present.
