DHAKA, Nov 14, 2024 (BSS) - Bangladesh Railway (BR) has intensified its drives against land grabbers to recover its occupied land, while nearly 20 acres of land was recovered in the last three months.
Bangladesh Railway conducted 27 eviction drives on 447 infrastructures in three months - August, September and October- and recovered 19.21 acres of the occupied land, according to a progress report on the works of different ministries and divisions.
The Chief Adviser's Press Wing shared the document on the occasion of the three months of the interim government led by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus.
The report said Bangladesh Railway has prepared a list of its occupied land, incorporating the specific information of 12,595 individuals and institutions/entities who grabbed the land of railway.
To make the integrated information of the land of Bangladesh Railway updated, recover its occupied land and increase revenue income, three meetings were held with the senior officials of the Ministry of Railways and Bangladesh Railway in the last three months.
An initiative has been taken to create a post of law officer at BR divisional estate offices aiming to settle speedily the cases related to the railway's land, the report said.
Bangladesh Railway has formulated a time-bound reform work plan to improve passenger services and strengthen institutional capacity, and initiatives have been taken to implement the plan.
Bangladesh Railway and the Ministry of Railways have jointly taken a step to form a monitoring team to monitor all divisional railway stations, including two major stations in Dhaka. The team will regularly visit all divisional railway stations and trains on different routes, the report said.
The railway authorities have launched a call centre numbering '131' on September 17 in 2024 to settle the allegations of train passengers and improve passenger services.
To ensure better rail services, regular mobile court drives have been strengthened, while a technical team comprising representatives of Shohoj.com and Bangladesh Railway has been formed to prevent black marketing of train tickets.
