KHULNA, Nov 14, 2024 (BSS) - Speakers at a discussion here today said that maintaining discipline, taking prescribed diets and medicines and regular physical exercise are very important for the patients suffering from diabetes.
They also unanimously opined that creating mass-awareness can be the vital means of reducing the number of diabetics.
They came up with the observation while addressing a discussion marking the World Diabetes Day-2024 on the Khulna Diabetes Association premises in the city.
The theme of the day is 'Diabetes: Our Commitment to Good Health.'
Khulna Divisional Commissioner and Administrator of Khulna City Corporation (KCC) addressed the meeting as the chief guest with BNP City Unit Convener Advocate S M Shafiqul Alam Mona in the chair.
Khulna Metropolitan Commissioner (KMP) Md Zulfikar Ali Haider and Khulna Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Shafiqul Islam addressed the programme as honorable guests.
Convener of the World Diabetes Day Udjapon Committee-2024 advocate Taslima Khatun Chanda delivered the welcome speech.
Terming diabetes as a silent killer, the chief guest advised creating mass awareness about the disease to get rid of the illness.
KMP Commissioner Md Zulfikar Ali Haider said that regular physical exercise and maintaining food and disciplined life can reduce diabetes.
He requested the educational institutions and parents to be careful so that the new generation can grow up with healthy food habit.
Khulna Civil Surgeon Dr Sheikh Shafiqul Islam stressed the need for creating awareness to prevent diabetes and called upon public and private entities concerned, including civil society, to come forward in this regard.
Living a normal life is possible by controlling this disease, he said, adding that about 75% people are not aware of the risks of the silent killer disease diabetes.
