DHAKA, Nov 14, 2024 (BSS) - Home adviser Lt Gen Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd) today said that now is the time for police to prove their sincerity through providing services to the people as the present interim government is not a political one.
“There is ample opportunity to work with honesty, efficiency and impartiality as there is no political influence on them under the interim government. The police force should devote itself to the service of the country and the nation,” he said.
The adviser made the remarks while addressing a view-exchange meeting with the divisional level officials of armed forces, various units of police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Coast Guard, Ansar and VDP, Department of Prisons, Department of Fire Service and Civil Defense and Department of Narcotics Control at the Gratitude Hall of Barisal Police Lines, said a press release.
The advisor said law enforcement agencies have an important role in controlling commodity prices and that is why the member of the forces should take steps to stop extortion. “Failure to do so, reputation of the forces will be tarnished and sacrifices of the martyrs of August 5 will be gone in vain,” he added.
He emphasized on community policing to maintain law and order.
Jahangir Alam Chowdhury directed the law enforcers not to arrest anyone in plain clothes and bring under the law without checking identity.
Mentioning that condition of dwelling and toilet facilities in various police stations isn’t good, he directed the senior officers to focus on solving these problems of the policemen.
The home advisor said the armed forces were given magisterial powers for two months to assist the civil administration in maintaining law and order.
Inspector General of Police Md Moinul Islam, Director General of RAB AKM Shahidur Rahman, Divisional Commissioner of Barisal Md Raihan Kausar, DIG of Police Barisal Range Md. Manzoor Morshed Alam, Barisal Metropolitan Police Commissioner Md Shafiqul Islam, and Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Delwar Hossain, among others, were present.
