Woman remanded over baby kidnap after Azimpur house looting

DHAKA, Nov 17, 2024 (BSS) - A court here today placed one Fatema Akter Shapla on a three-day remand in a case lodged over the kidnap of an eight-month-old baby after looting a house in capital's Azimpur area.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arobia Khanam passed the order as police produced Shapla before the court and pleaded to place him on a five-day remand in the case filed with the Lalbagh Police Station.

According to the case documents, the accused came to the house of the victim Jannat Jaifa on November 15. Jaifa's mother, a stenographer of Ministry of Home Affairs, knew her from before. Shapla somehow managed to drug her, leaving her unconscious.

Later Shapla called three of her accomplices and they looted Taka 1.70 lakh in cash, around seven tolas of gold ornaments from the house. They kidnapped eight-month-old Jaifa as well. 

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), however, managed to detain Fatema Akter Shapla from Mohammadpur area and rescued Jaifa from her.
