DHAKA, Nov 17, 2024 (BSS) – Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh (CAAB) today issued directive to keep Shah Amanat International Airport in Chattogram operational for four days in a week.

The decision was taken anticipating heavy fog that may affect flight landings at Dhaka’s Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport, said CAAB Chairman Air Vice-Marshal Md Monjur Kabir Bhuiyan during his visit to the Chattogram airport today.

The CAAB Chairman explained that in previous years, dense fog during winter often necessitated diverting flights to foreign airports, according to a CAAB press release issued here.

To address this issue domestically, Shah Amanat International Airport will now serve as a contingency option for flights unable to land in Dhaka due to poor visibility.
 
Additionally, Sylhet’s Osmani International Airport will operate round-the-clock for the remaining three days of the week, providing further alternatives for flight diversions.

During his visit, CAAB chairman inspected various facilities and ongoing projects at Shah Amanat International Airport, including the passenger terminal, lounges, runway, apron, new boarding bridge, children’s park, and driveways.

He expressed satisfaction with the progress of these projects and emphasized the importance in significantly enhancing passenger services.

He urged all involved to expedite the completion of these development initiatives to improve airport efficiency and safety.

The Chairman also underscored the critical role of airport modernization in enhancing passenger experience and operational security, directing officials to ensure swift and smooth execution of all development activities.
