DHAKA, Nov 18, 2024 (BSS)- The body of Zakaria Pintoo, captain of Shadhin Bangla football team, will be brought to his beloved club Mohammedan tomorrow (Tuesday) morning, said a press release.
His namaz-e-janaza will be held on the Mohammedan Club premises at 10 am, where the club officials will pay homage to him.
Captain of the Shadhin Bangla football team Zakaria Pintoo died of heart disease today (Monday) at a hospital in the city at the age of 81.
He left behind one son, three daughters, relatives and host of well wishers to mourn his death.
Different sports federations and sports body expressed deep shock at the death of Pintoo.
The Bangladesh Football Federation (BFF) president Tabith Awal, its senior vice president, vice-presidents, executive members, general secretary, officials and employees expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of the legendary sports personality.
In another message, Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Pintoo.
President of BOA and Bangladesh Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman and its Secretary General Syed Shahed Reza also condoled the death of Shadhin Bangla football team Captain Pintoo.
Besides, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), Bangladesh Handball Federation, Bangladesh Volleyball Federation, Bangladesh Archery Federation, Bangladesh Rugby Federation, Bangladesh Sports Press Association also expressed deep shock at the death of Shadhin Bangla football team Captain Pintoo.
Pintoo was born in Naogaon on January 1 in 1943 and represented both the Pakistan national football team and the East Pakistan football team, captaining the latter in numerous occasions.
In club football, Pintoo represented Mohammedan, one of the most popular clubs in Bangladesh, for a continuous period of 14 years.
In recognition for his contribution to the country's football, he was
accorded with the Independence Award in 1995 and the National Sports Awards
in 1978.
