'Action being taken against those involved in harassment of Asif Nazrul'

DHAKA, Nov 18, 2024 (BSS) - Action is being taken against those involved in the incident of harassment of Law Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul in Geneva recently, Chief Adviser's Deputy Press Secretary Apurba Jahangir said today.

"The incident is being probed in Geneva. Legal action is being taken against those involved," he told a press briefing, responding to a question.

The regular press briefing was held at Foreign Service Academy here.

Dr Asif Nazrul was harassed by some Bangladeshi expatriates during his recent visit to Geneva.

Responding to a question, Chief Adviser's Deputy Press Secretary Abul Kalam Azad Majumder said press accreditation cards were issued to party men during the ousted Awami League government regime and they were involved in various activities, including lobbying, at Secretariat and other government entities by misusing the cards.

Their cards were canceled based on various complaints, he said.

Mentioning that the cards of about 170 journalists were cancelled, he said those who are eligible and those who think that unfair attitudes were shown to them can apply for the cards again.

Azad said their applications will be considered if the government thinks that there are enough grounds to issue the accreditation cards to them.

Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam was present at the press briefing.
