Calls for establishing justice-based humanitarian Bangladesh

DHAKA, Nov 19, 2024 (BSS) - Speakers at a discussion in the capital underscored the need for establishing a justice-based humanitarian Bangladesh that will be fearless and free from murder, disappearance and torture.

"The new Bangladesh which has been achieved through the blood of thousands of people will be free from disappearances, murders or extrajudicial killings, where humanity will be at the heart of the state," said speakers.

They were addressing a discussion titled 'What do we want in new Bangladesh?' organized by 'Bannernews' at the National Museum auditorium here today.

Researcher and writer Mobashwer Hasan said, "We don't want to see any more disappearances and murders in this independent Bangladesh, which has been achieved with the blood of thousands of people."

The new Bangladesh will be free from disappearances, murders or extrajudicial killings, where humanity will be at the heart of the state, he added.

Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said, "We want a country where people will have no fear. The voices of each citizen of the country will be heard. Students will not be tempted to leave the country. There will be no pollution and it will be a proud country".

Those who still have blood on their hands should be tried first, he said, adding that, "Sheikh Hasina will be brought to the country and tried. They still have no regrets. There is no way to justify their heinous acts".

"Six reform commissions have been formed to repair the new state which also has international support," he added.

Criticizing the role of the media during the fascist Sheikh Hasina's regime, Convener of Anti Discrimination Student Movement Hasnat Abdullah said, "The media used to be controlled from Ganobhaban".

"After the killing of martyr Abu Sayed, we were on the strict decision of continuing movement and having no talks with the fascist government amid pressures from DGFI...but the media broadcasted news claiming movement's withdrawal as per the will of the fascist government," said Hasnat.

"We don't want that journalism where journalists get plots in Purbachal in exchange for advocating for Sheikh Hasina," Hasnat said, adding, "In the new Bangladesh, we don't want Ganabhaban-oriented media, rather we want people-oriented media. Media will present people's expectations".

Professor Dr. Salimullah Khan said, "We want equality, dignity and equality-based justice in the new Bangladesh. I don't want any more torture, discrimination, disappearances, murders or crossfire. We have to continue our fight against these. The state should run on the basis of justice".

"Education should be free up to class 12. Influenced by Americans, though we started talking about human rights, the fascist regimes have violated it for the last 16 years. We must come out of blind slavery," the professor added.

Mayer Daak coordinator Sanjida Islam Tuli demanded justice for the disappearances and murders that took place in the last 16 years.

"Standard operative system should be developed for the law enforcement forces. And every murder must be tried first. No talks on Awami League's return in politics before ensuring their trial."

Actress Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed said, "We all want to live happily in the free country. Parents and guardians need to understand the language of Gen-z. The state must realize the needs of its citizens and the younger generation".

BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman's adviser Mahdi Amin, Martyr Zahid Hossain's father Jahangir Hossain, Martyr Ghulam Nafiz's mother Nazma Akhtar Nasima and Bannernews journalists Sharif Khiam, Jiban Ahmed and Sudipta Salam also addressed the discussion.
