Dr Baharul Alam takes charge as new IGP

DHAKA, Nov 21, 2024(BSS) - Baharul Alam officially took charge as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP) this morning, succeeding outgoing IGP Md Moinul Islam.

The government on Wednesday appointed him as IGP for a two-year term. 

Dr Bahar joined the police service on January 21 in 1986 as a cadet of sixth batch of Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS), popularly known as 84th batch. 

During his service life, he performed his responsibilities in many capacities including the chief of the Special Branch (SB) and Additional Inspector General at Bangladesh Police headquarters.

He worked as senior police liaison officer under peace keeping department of the United Nations from 2009 to 2013 and also served in UN Peace Keeping Force in Afghanistan as Senior Police Adviser. He also performed his duty in the UN peace keeping missions in Croatia, Serbia, Kosovo and Sierra Leon. 

He went on retirement from the service in 2020.

Upon arriving at the Police Headquarters this morning, the newly appointed IGP was accorded a guard of honour by a smart contingent of police.
