DHAKA, Nov 21, 2024(BSS) - The newly appointed Commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Sheikh Md Sajjat Ali took charge from his predecessor Md Mainul Hasan today.

The government on Wednesday appointed Sajjat Ali as the DMP Commissioner for two-year contact.

Earlier in the morning, the outgoing police commissioner Md Mainul Hasan along with his colleagues welcomed the newly appointed DMP commissioner when he arrived at the DMP headquarters where a smartly turned-out contingent of police gave him a guard of honour. 
 
Sajjat Ali joined the police service on January 21, 1986 as a cadet of 6th batch of Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS), popularly known as 84 batch. 

In his career in the police department, he served as an Additional Superintendent of Police (Adl.SP) at Jhenaidah, Police headquarters and the Special Branch (SB). He also served as SP in Luxmipur, Narail and Bagerhat districts and DMP.
 
He also worked as commissioner of Khulna Metropolitan Police (KMP) and served as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) at police headquarters, Dhaka and Chottogram range and Highway Police.

Sheikh Sajjat Ali was an Additional IGP at the police headquarters and finally the government sent him on force retirement on November 3, 2016.

He was also appointed as a member of the recently formed Police Reforms Commission. 

He served many UN peace keeping missions and joined various training courses at home and abroad during his career.
