Armed Forces Day celebrated at Rangpur cantonment

RANGPUR, Nov 21, 2024 (BSS) - The Armed Forces Day-2024 was celebrated at
Rangpur Cantonment today to commemorate the combined attack on the occupying
army by the Bangladesh Armed Forces, comprising the Army, Navy and Air Force,
on this day in 1971 to accelerate the Liberation War.
 
"As a result of the combined attacks of the Armed Forces, an independence and
sovereign Bangladesh was achieved on December 16, 1971," said a press release
issued here this evening.
 
Under management of Rangpur Area of Bangladesh Army, colorful programs were
taken this time like every year to celebrate the day befittingly paying
profound respect to the memories of the martyrs, who made supreme sacrifices
during the War of Liberation.

The heroic freedom fighters from all over Rangpur division, family members of
martyred heroic freedom fighters, military and civil officials, former
members of the Armed Forces, noted local personalities, students and
journalists attended the function.
 
General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 66 Infantry Division and Rangpur Area
Commander Major General Mohammad Kamrul Hasan welcomed the invited heroic
freedom fighters and guests present in the function.
 
He highly appreciated the unparalleled courage, cooperation and heroic
contribution of people of Rangpur region during the War of Liberation and
paid humble respect to heroic freedom fighters and martyred freedom fighters
of the region.
 
He expressed deep gratitude to all heroic freedom fighters, family members of
martyred heroic freedom fighters and invited guests and thanked them for
their presence in the celebration function and making it glorious.
 
"Alongside conducting professional duties, the Armed Forces have stood beside
the people during any kind of crisis moment," he said.
 
The GOC highlighted contributions of the Armed Forces to facing any type of
natural disasters, resisting terrorism in Chattogram Hill Tracts, assisting
civil administrations and nation-building activities.
 
"In addition, the Armed Forces have brightened the country's image in the
international arena through conducting duties with utmost sincerity in the
United Nations' peacekeeping missions," he mentioned, the release added.
