Elections can be held in reasonable time following reforms: Jamaat Secretary

DHAKA, Nov 22, 2024 (BSS) - Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Secretary General Professor Mia Golam Parwar today said the elections can only be held once an environment for fair elections is created following reforms of the Election Commission, police administration and the executive department.

“The elections should be held at a reasonable time after national reforms. However, it is difficult to say exactly how long or how many years it can be…,” he said while addressing a worker conference of the party at Dr Shaheed Samnuzzhoha Park in Meherpur this afternoon.

He said Jamaat believes in the democratic process and the party has been holding dialogues with all political parties, including the BNP and Islamic parties, said a press release here today.

On the issue of banning political organisations, Parwar said, “Jamaat was banned four days before August 5...Then AL and Chhatra League couldn't survive even for four days as Sheikh Hasina and her relatives had to flee the country amid widespread public outrage”.

Golam Parwar said, “People will hold the trial of Awami League...It will depend on people’s aspirations whether they (AL) can contest in the national elections or not…Sheikh Hasina will be brought to justice through legal process”.

Chaired by district Ameer Maulana Tajuddin Khan, Jamaat central executive council member Mubarak Hossain, Central Majlis-e-Sura member Dr Alamgir Biswas, Chuadanga district Jamaat Ameer Advocate Ruhul Amin, Meherpur district Nayeb-e-ameer Mahbubul Alam and Secretary Iqbal Hossain addressed the rally, among others.
