CHATTOGRAM, Nov 22, 2024 (BSS) - President of Gono Odhikar Parishad (GAP) Nurul Haque Nur today called for holding a mass procession from Chattogram demanding banning of Awami League (AL) as a political party.
He made the call while addressing a youth rally at the city’s Laldighi Maidan this afternoon.
Nur, the former Vice-President of Dhaka University Central Students Union (DUCSU), alleged that two or three political parties in the country want AL’s participation in the elections.
“We must build a strong resistance so that AL could not participate in the election standing on the blood of the students and people,” he said adding, “We must resist those, who will take the names of AL, Jubo League and Chhatra League...”
Sounding a note of caution, he said those who would take stand in favor of rehabilitating the AL, they would be considered as the allies of fascism.
In this connection, he said that his party will hold a mass procession in Dhaka, if necessary, with the demand of banning AL.
He said, "We have seen the leaders of political parties for 53 years...Now, we want to see the interim government led by Professor Dr Muhammad Yunus for another two or three years”.
“We believe that Dr. Muhammad Yunus's international reputation can quickly pull the country's fragile economy,” he added.
He further said the Interim Government has formed six reform commissions--Election, media, judicial system, and administrative reforms—in line with the aspirations of the mass movement and without these reforms, there will be no election in the country,” he added.
He however, said that the people would not give the government a blank check to stay in state power. “You will do good work, you will get our support. If you do anti-people activities and take a stand against the people, we will not give you even a second.” Nur said.
Mentioning the people’s expectation in a new Bangladesh, Nur said the students and the mass people including GAP will work to build a new Bangladesh as per the people’s expectations.
GAP General Secretary Muhammad Rashed Khan and others local and central leaders of the organisation addressed the rally, among others.
