BD mission in Washington celebrates Armed Forces Day

DHAKA, Nov 23, 24(BSS)- The 53rd Armed Forces Day was celebrated in the Bangladesh embassy in Washington DC on Thursday, according to a press release received here today.

The Embassy hosted a reception on Thursday evening attended by diplomats of different countries, senior officials from Pentagon, US state department in addition to members of the Bangladeshi Diaspora, and embassy officials and employees.

Vice Admiral J. Brad Skillman, Deputy Chief of Naval Operations for Integration of Capabilities and Resources of the USA attended the ceremony as the chief guest.

Chargé d'Affaires of Bangladesh to the United States DM Salahuddin Mahmud and Defense Attaché Brigadier General Md Shahedul Islam spoke on the occasion.

In his address, Vice Admiral J. Brad Skillman praised the Bangladesh Armed Forces for their invaluable contributions to safeguard national sovereignty and promoting global peace.

He highlighted the Bangladesh Armed Forces’ leadership in disaster relief, support for the destitute, and commitment to peace and stability worldwide.

Skillman also emphasized that Bangladesh’s position as the largest contributor of troops to the UN peacekeeping missions has earned global recognition for its dedication and sacrifice.

Furthermore, he underscored the strong partnership between Bangladesh’s and the US Armed Forces, expressing his enthusiasm for continued collaboration to advance peace and prosperity.

The Chargé d' affaires Mahmud emphasized the deep and multifaceted defense collaboration between Bangladesh and the USA.

Mahmud also reiterated Bangladesh's commitment to working closely with the USA to strengthen ties and foster future engagements.

The event included a screening of a documentary on the Bangladesh Armed Forces, showcasing their dedication and activities. The program concluded with the cutting of a cake by the Chief Guest and other dignitaries.
