People's democratic rights should be restored thru quick polls: Gayeshwar

LALMONIRHAT, Nov 23, 24 (BSS)- BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy today urged the interim government to hold the general elections in the quickest possible time to restore democratic rights of the people.

"The people of the country are yet to get back their voting rights after ousted fascist Sheikh Hasina's regime," he told a discussion on 'Shaheed Zia Memorial Football Tournament' at Barobari Shaheed Abul Kashem College playground here.

The senior BNP leader said that the people are not interested to hear any new words rather they are eagerly waiting for casting their votes.

He urged all to come forward to build new Bangladesh as dreamt by Shaheed Ziaur Rahman, Khaleda Zia and Tarique Rahman, adding, "We have to win in this journey of movement who believe in Bangladeshi nationalism".

The BNP has already placed 31-point reform proposals and the interim government can sit with other political parties, he said, adding that the reforms should be done on the basis of consensus and political issues must be resolved by the politicians.

The meeting was addressed, among others, by organizing secretary of BNP-(Rangpur division) and former deputy minister Asadul Habib Dulu, Rural Development Affairs secretary Forhad Hossain Azad, BNP International Affairs committee member Engineer Ishraq Hossain and member secretary of the tournament and joint secretary of the district BNP AKM Mominul Haque.

The football tournament was arranged comprising BNP leaders and activists of eight districts of Rangpur division and Panchagar BNP XI and Lalmonirhat BNP XI faced each other today.

Panchagar district BNP XI won today's match by defeating Lalmonirhat with 3-0 goals.

Over one lakh football fans thronged the ground. The final competition of the tournament will be held on November 28.
