Former chief justice Md Ruhul Amin no more

 DHAKA, Nov 24, 2024 (BSS) - Former chief justice Md Ruhul Amin died of old age complications at the Combined Military Hospital in Dhaka at 4.30 am today. He was 83.
 
Justice Md Ruhul Amin has been suffering from old age complications for a long and has been receiving treatment at the hospital for the last few days.

 His namaj-e-janaza will be held on November 26 after Zuhr's prayers at the Supreme Court inner garden. Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed and the judges of both divisions of the Supreme Court are likely to take part in the janaza.

Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed, in a condolence message, expressed profound shock at the death of Justice Md Ruhul Amin. He prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.

 A Supreme Court notification signed by Registrar General Dr. Aziz Ahmed Bhuiyan said that in a tribute to the late Chief Justice Md Ruhul Amin, the judicial functions of both the Appellate and High Court Divisions will remain suspended today.

 The matters that came to the Appellate Division cause list today will be heard on December 1, while matters of the High Court Division cause list will be heard on November 25.
 
Justice Md Ruhul Amin was born on June 1, 1941, into an affluent family in Lakshmipur.
 
He obtained his MA in Political Science from the University of Dhaka in 1962 and his LLB in 1965. In 1966, he was enrolled as a lawyer at the then East Pakistan High Court and later in 1981 as a lawyer of the Appellate Division of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh.
     
He was appointed as a Justice of the High Court Division on February 18, 1992, and was elevated to the Appellate Division on January 11, 2001.
 
Justice Md Ruhul Amin served as the 15th Chief Justice of Bangladesh from March 1, 2007 to May 31, 2008.
