Two including ex-secy remanded in Juba Dal leader killing case

DHAKA, Nov 24, 2024 (BSS)- A court here today placed former senior secretary
of Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism Mohibul Haque and Bangladesh
People's Party Chairman Babul Sardar Chakhari on a three-day remand each in a
case lodged over the killing of Juba Dal leader Shamim.

Dhaka Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Ziadur Rahman passed the order
this afternoon.

Babul was arrested from the capital's Shahjahanpur area on November 19. On
that day, he was produced before the court and police pleaded to place him on
a seven-day remand in the case.

Mohibul, on the other hand, was arrested from Mohakhali DOHS area on November
20. He was produced before the court the next day with five-day police remand
prayer.

The courts on both the cases deferred the hearing date as the main case
documents haven't reached the courts by then.

According to the case documents, BNP called a rally in the capital's Naya
Paltan area on October 28, 2023. To counter the BNP's rally, the then ruling
Awami League convened a counter rally in the capital on the same day.

The Awami League men with the support of law enforcing agencies attacked the
BNP rally which left Shamim Mollah killed and injured many of its leaders and
activists.

The case was filed against 704 people including AL general secretary Obaidul
Quader on September 24, 2024.
