DHAKA, Nov 24, 2024 (BSS) – Families of the victims in Tazreen fashion fire incident have demanded exemplary punishment of factory owner Delwar Hossain and providing the deceased and injured workers adequate compensation.
Over a decade has passed since the deadly fire incident, factory owner Delwar Hossain still roves free but no steps have been taken so far to give compensation to the families of deceased and injured workers, they said while speaking at a gathering in front of the factory at Ashulia's Nishchintapur area today.
On November 24, 2012, a deadly fire in Tazreen Fashion Ltd in Ashulia's Nishchintapur area left 117 workers dead and 200 others injured.
Marking 12 years of the tragedy, families of the deceased and injured workers, and labour activists and leaders gathered in front of the factory and offered prayers and flowers. They also brought out a protest procession there.
Different organizations of the garment employees and the Industrial Police separate placed wreaths in front of the factory in memory of those killed in the fire incident.
Meanwhile, a number of employees on Saturday evening paid tributes to the deceased workers by lightening candles.
