DU Chhatra League leader Emon arrested from N'ganj

DHAKA, Nov 25, 2024 (BSS) - Detective Branch (DB) of police arrested a Chhatra League leader from Narayanganj district on charges of attacking protestors during the anti-discrimination student movement on the Dhaka University (DU) campus.

The arrested was identified as Emon Khan Jiban, 28, hospitality secretary of DU's Salimullah Muslim Hall unit of the Chhatra League.

Acting on a tip-off, Emon was arrested from Narayanganj around 10pm on Sunday, said Muhammad Talebur Rahman, deputy commissioner of media and public relations, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).

When students of DU brought out a procession in support of the anti-discrimination movement from Raju Memorial Sculpture, leaders and activists of various organisations affiliated with Awami League, including the banned organisation Chhatra League, swooped on the protesting students with local weapons and firearms, leaving 300 students injured in the afternoon of July 15, 2024.

Mahin, a student of DU, filed the case with Shahbagh police station on October 21.
