DHAKA, Nov 25, 2024 (BSS)- Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Adviser Asif Mahmud Shojib Bhuyain has said legal action will be taken against those involved in student clashes in Dhaka.
He said this while speaking at a press briefing at Foreign Service Academy here this evening.
Urging the students not to pay heed to any provocation and to place their allegations to the government through college authorities, Asif said the clash in Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College was originated centering the death of a student, suffering from dengue.
There was allegation of negligence against National Medical College behind this death but it could not be known how Shaheed Suhrawardy College got involved in this incident, he said.
Then chase and counter-chase took place among the students of the colleges, the adviser said adding steps are going on to take legal action against those involved in the clashes and such incidents will not be tolerated in future.
He said the law enforcing agencies and the college authorities tried to resolve the issue but clashes among students could not be prevented.
Mentioning that there were rumours in social media that seven students of Shaheed Suhrawardy College and three of Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College were killed in the clashes Asif said there was no report of death so far but many students were injured in the clashes.
But, he said, the government has taken measures to ensure treatment of the injured students.
Information and Broadcasting Adviser Nahid Islam, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam and Deputy Press Secretary Apurba Jahangir were also present at the press briefing.
On Monday (today), clashes erupted among the students of Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul College and Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College in the city.
In response to a question, Asif said there was a lot of information coming about who are behind the clashes occurred between college students.
Investigation is underway to find out those involved in the clashes, he said.
Mentioning that a planned conspiracy is being hatched to create instability in the country, Nahid Islam said instability is being created in a planned way.
Many people do not want the government to successfully run, particularly the ousted fascist government is carrying out various types of propaganda, he said.
All this is being done to halt the government's activities and divert the attention of the people to another direction, the information adviser said.
But, he said, efforts are on to find those who are doing this from home and abroad.
He called upon political parties and social organisations having revolutionary spirit to play a responsible role in resisting the planned conspiracy and propaganda.
Common people were brought in the capital from different parts of the country by alluring them with false hope, Nahid said, adding that police have already arrested the head of the clique.
