Test run of trains across Jamuna Railway Bridge conducted

TANGAIL, Nov 26, 2024 (BSS) - After a long wait, the first test run of trains was conducted across the newly-built railway bridge over the Jamuna River today.

During the test run, the first train started its journey from Bhuapur side in Tangail with three coaches around 10 am, and the train returned to the departing station by 10:41 am from the western side of Sirajganj.

Project Implementation Officer of Jamuna Railway Bridge Al Fattah Md Masudur Rahman, Project Manager Mark Hobby from France, Construction Manager Epomapsu in Japan, Track Expert Nakajima in Japan, and Security Engineer Kamrul Hasan Chowdhury were present in Bhuapur side during the test run.

The trial runs will continue while operations of commercial trains are expected to commence in January next.

It is expected that this railway bridge will allow uninterrupted passage for at least 88 trains daily, significantly reducing travel time.

With a view to ensuring smooth railway communication, the physical work of the project started in August 2020, while the foundation work of the bridge was begun in March 2021.
