DHAKA, Nov 26, 2024 (BSS) – Home Adviser Lt Gen Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (retd) today directed police not to take false cases under any circumstance.
“False cases wouldn’t be accepted under any circumstances. If anyone does it, he will have to be brought under the law,” he said.
The advisor issued the directive during a meeting on the law and order situation at Sylhet Circuit House, said a ministry press release.
He said, “We have to keep working to maintain law and order, and many problems and criticisms also have to be faced when we go to work.”
He added, “Everyone has to consider the situation under which you (police) have started working. Whether anyone praises us or not, we have to keep working.”
The advisor noted that extortion is also responsible for price hike of daily essentials and asked authorities concerned to stop extortion with a strong hand.
Mentioning that recruitment in the police has become transparent in recent times, he said, “This trend must be continued. Recruitment and posting trade will not be tolerated anymore.”
The adviser said the illegal weapons recovery operation must be strengthened further and asked the law enforcement agencies to be vigilant regarding mob justice.
He said that if the top terrorists get involved in misdeeds again after coming out from jail through the legal process, they should be brought under the law.
Stating that the law and order situation has improved due to the joint efforts of all agencies in controlling crimes in Mohammadpur, the advisor said that good results can be obtained if everyone works together.
The advisor said that extortion and harassment through false cases must be stopped.
Stressing the need of restoring public’s trust on police and RAB, he said if there is any anger, it must be reduced by handling people in better way.
The advisor directed the law enforcement agencies not to arrest anyone in plain clothes, saying, “No one can be arrested without reasons.”
He continued that no illegal order will be followed by the law enforcement agencies.
The meeting was attended by the Divisional Commissioner Sylhet, senior officials of the armed forces, district and upazila administrations, and various departments and organizations under the Ministry of Home Affairs.
